What is a XRF? How do we use it?

What is a XRF?

XRF is an acronym for X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy.

An XRF, or X-ray fluorescence, is a non-destructive analytical technique used to determine the elemental composition of materials. In the precious metals industry, XRF is often used to analyze the purity and composition of precious metals such as gold, silver, and platinum. It does this by irradiating the sample with X-rays, which causes the atoms of the sample to emit fluorescent X-rays unique to each element present. By measuring the intensity and energy of these emitted X-rays, the XRF instrument can identify and quantify the various elements in the sample, providing valuable information for quality control, authentication, and grading of precious metals.
